He Works Hard For The Money, So You Better Treat Him Right

I recently decided after almost nine years of marriage that I would tag along with my hubby on a work day. My initial reason for doing this was in all honesty to get to have a un (child-interupted) conversation with him and to hang out with him during daylight hours before we were in our usual night time state of exhaustion. That was MY reason. The night before something started stirring in my heart though, and I thought about an article that I recently read about hard work. dreams and keeping the wolves from the door. The long and short of the article was about the fact that we live in a culture where we somehow feel like we missed the mark if our gifts, talents and dreams are not colliding perfectly with our careers and in turn giving us this amazing experience of making great money and fulfilling our dreams all at the same time. I, just like the writer of that article believe that if that is your experience it is a beautiful gift, but I also believe that the “keeping the wolves from the door” work ethic is too, no matter how strenuous, mundane, or “uncool” something can be. My eyes were opened that day as I watched my husband give his body to keep us going. I watched him in the elements, odds for joy stacked against him, be joyful, kind, patient and hard working. It changed my heart and brought me the realization of how ultimately loving it is for someone to give of their body for you… to feed, clothe, provide for your needs and wants. Cinderella Man is my favorite movie and watching Russell work that day reminded me of the scene where the main character gets asked what was different this time as he was making his big boxing comeback and he replied that he knew what he was fighting for now……MILK. Russell knows what he is fighting for and I am so thankful. I wanted to give my gratitude a voice, so here is a peak into “our” work day. It was hot and grimy and great. Hats off to all of you hard workers and providers. It is good, honorable and commendable.

Russell, thank you for freely giving all that you are to us. You keep the wolves from our door and I am forever grateful. I love you. I see you.

Meet my friend Jess and her little tribe of men, Sam, Kael and Cedar. The Gatlyns are some of the most beautifully passionate and creative artists and lovers! Jess and Sam work together side by side creating and collaborating on projects that include everything from videography, photography, design, art and music…you name it!  They are currently in the process of  launching two new ventures together, RIVERFOLK  FILMS and BOHEMIAN INK, an amazing tattoo design company. Creativity aside, Jess is the most passionate, sympathetic, encouraging and genuine soul on earth.  A few weeks ago I had the priviledge of watching Jess and her family wake up, live and love on a “normal” day.  When I was young , my grandma used to tell me that I was her “heartstrings” and I knew exactly what she meant. Her words flowed through her love vein into my heart and gave me life. There is no doubt that these fine fellows are Jess’s “heartstrings” and  there is no doubt that they know it!  It was a true treasure to watch as they  loved extravagantly  in the small things that make up life. To tag along side of Jess’s journey through being a wife, mama and artist  go check out her blog at  http://bohobabybump.blogspot.com
